Visa Validity

Hi

My Husband's company applied H1 B visa but he could not get an opportunity to
work onsite.His visa and work permit are valid upto 12 aug 2011.My question is can he apply for jobs in USA with this validity? Can the work permit be renewed after its expiry?What are the possible ways to work abroad? if the company does not renew the visa what else can be done after expiration ? Please help

There is no problem in applying for jobs. But, the new employer will have to file a petition for him and he can travel with the same visa (before Aug 12) and new petition approval notice. New petition can be of 3 year duration. The petition will not be subject to annual cap and the employer can request immediate start date instead of Oct 1.
Only the time spent in the US in H1 status counts against 6 year limit.
