H4 stamping while H1 is in progress

Hi,
I am currently on H4 visa and my employer is sponsoring my H1 this year. I am travelling to India in June and need to go for H4 stamping in India. I would like to know how H4 stamping affect the H1 visa which is still in process. If I come back to US on H4 what will happen to my H1 as I would like to start working from Oct 2011 after I get my H1.

It is not a good idea to travel while your H1 change of status is pending (or even approved).
Either plan your travel in such a way that you will get H1 Visa after H1 petition approval and return in H1 status at around Oct 1 or file the H1 petition after you return in H4 status.
