Getting H1 after L1 + H4

I was in US on L1 visa for 5 years. Now I am planning to move to H4 and stay as a dependant of my spouse.
Will 1 year on H4 be treated as a break and if I get a H1 will it be for 6 years or for 1 year ?

Do I really need to go out of US to be eligible for a full 6 years of H1.

You will have to stay out of U.S for 1 whole year to qualify for a fresh H1B or L1.
