H4 Visa from India - which US consulate

Hi,
I am from Agra, India. My husband works in USA, and I have to apply for H4 visa. Closest US consulate to my city is Delhi. I am staying in Delhi region for last 10-15 years. I am just wondering is it compulsory to apply at Delhi consulate only, or can I apply at any US Consulate in India. I would like to apply at Mumbai US Consulate as its closer to my husband's hometown.

I appreciate any help on this.

You can apply at any of the four consulates or the embassy in New Delhi. See the press release from the embassy dated November 18, 2010.

But please confirm with VFS or the consulate for clarity. Mumbai consulate has just resumed processing of H and L visas with a reduced number of appointments being available.
