H4 pending -- want to apply for new H4 visa

Hi,

My H4 visa is pending since sep'11 at hyd consulate. I want to apply for a new H4 visa.
I have couple of questions.

1) Do I need to cancel my previous pending H4 visa for a new H4 visa.
2) Is it ok to go with another H4 without cancelling the previous one.

Please suggest.
