H1 out of status

Hi folks,

I am currently on H1visa and was recently given service termination notice by my employer.
Its due in next 30 days.

I need to know, how long I can stay in USA (after last service date) and look for another job ?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

0 days. You need to find another employer and file the H1B transfer before your last day on the current job. Once you are out of status a successful transfer is not possible.

I have heard that you can stay for 30 days but you are out of status the day you stop working and as such can be denied a H1B transfer. The 30 days is an unofficial grace period.

I am on a similar boat. My H1-B got revoked on 6/01 after losing my job. I might be able to nail down a job by end of July. Has anyone been able to get their H1B approved after being 2 months out of status?

I am also contemplating on legally marrying my girlfriend now, who is a US Citizen- I would have married her next year anyway. Could this (marrying her because I am out of status) be grounds to reject my green card if I take this path?
