  • Received 221g in India and want to go Canada on PR

Currently, I am living in India. I am a Indian citizen and have a Canadian Permanent Residency.

One of the company from USA had applied for my H1B visa and few weeks back I had a H1B visa interview at US Consulate in Mumbai, India. Unfortunately, I didn't get the visa straight away, instead I got the 221(g). Which means I will have to submit all the additional requested documents to US Consulate in Mumbai. They will evaluate all those documents and then will take a decision on my visa. This process could take from 6 weeks to 6 months. If all goes well, they will send me letter at my home address in India to submit my passport for the visa stamping.

So, here is my question: Can I travel to Canada while US Consulate evaluates my documents to resolve 221(g) ? Let's say if the decision comes in my favor, can I submit the passport in US Consulate in Canada somewhere like Torronto or Ottawa ? OR Has it to be submitted in Mumbai Consulate ONLY?

I want to go to USA on H1B visa, but my main goal is NOT to waste time in India while US Consulate evaluates my documents for the visa decision.

    >>> It has to be submitted to the consulate where you attended the visa interview.

    >>> Well, you can tarvel to any other country. When the 221g gets resolved and if you are still interested in getting the H1B visa stamped, then you will have to return back to India to submit the passport for stamping. It is illegal to send the passport via courier from one country to another.
