Unused Expired H1b

I have searched this topic already and found some disappointing results but in my desperation I wanted to ask the question regarding my specific circumstances.

H1b Visa granted in Summer 2001

H1b Visa extended Summer 2004 - Summer 2007(exp)

I left the USA in Summer 2005 leaving 2 years of Visa time.

I am now being hired by the same company in a very similar position. They dragged their heels and I now expect to miss this years cap. Can I hope to return on the 2 remaining years???

H1B CAP is valid only for 6 years. You are no longer eligible for CAP exemption. You need to file your petition under a new CAP.
