  • Marriage registration for visa parole

    Hi,

My husband is an Indian citizen and I am a US Citizen, resident of New York State. We got married at a court house in Mumbai under the Special Marriages Act. We have the original stamped, signed marriage certificate. We both work on a cruise ship currently with home port in New Orleans, Lousiana. My husband has a C1/D visa and was told by the Customs & Border Patrol officers that he could stay in the US for up to 28 days (on parole is what they called it) on his C1/D visa as long as he interviewed with the CBP agent, and provided proof that our marriage is registered in the US. I cannot figure out how to register our marriage in the US. Everywhere I go, I get the same answer: that we don't have to register because it was a court marriage and it is recognized as valid in the US. Still, how can I provide some sort of proof to these CBP agents?? Very frustrated and feeling like I'm running in circles.

    Thanks for your help!
