Social Security Card Question

Hi,

I applied for AOS based on marriage (I-485) in December 2017 and completed Biometrics in January 2018. Waiting on SS card and Employment Authorization card which will allow me to get a driver's license in North Carolina (where I live). My question is can I somehow apply for SSN myself, or do I have to wait for them to do it? Do you get a card in the mail? Can someone explain please how this works? I'm frustrated without a driver's license.

When you have the Employment Authorization card, you can apply for an SSN.
