  • Expired International Student Driver's License

After passing my driving test in Las Vegas, I was given an international student driver's license that expired in the third week of May. I am now in Illinois, and I am still on an F-1 visa. I wish to renew this license and would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me what I need to do in order to renew it, and what documents I need to present at the DMV.

You can get one in IL provided you have a valid I-94, SSN proof or denial letter, passport, address proof of residence in IL (Any letter from USPS), another form of ID with your name (could be student ID or credit card (What???), yes, CC is another form of ID).

You would have to take the written exam for IL again and may have to probably give a road test as your prior DL expired. But the road test may be needed if the DL expired for more than 6-12 months I guess.

Check the secretary of state webpage.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
