Passport Renewal

Hai,
we have our visa appointment at the US consulate in chennai on may 9th.we have our appointment based on our old passport number...but after we scheduled an appointment with the consulate thru their website we got our passports renewed which has a diff passport number.we donot understand what to do now...we already have our flight tickets and cancelling the appointment as well as flight tickets will result in a great loss...could anybosy tell us what to do...any suggestions will be of great help to us

I believe you must keep your old passport along with your new one. It's understandable that when you renew your PP if the book is finished or damaged you would definitely get a new one and number will be different. So the Consulate could accept it as a genuine case. (But we don't make the rules, Consulate does) Try taking both PPs with you. Hope for the best. If you can, call the consulate and find out. Good luck.
