After reaching US, when can we apply SSN?

Hi All,

Please let us know when should we apply SSN ,after reaching US, is there a time limit or number of days we need to wait until Immigration sends details to SSN office etc ?

I was told that after we land in US , wait for 10 to 15 days and then apply for SSN is this information correct?

I was planning to visit in next 1 or 2 days after I reach US ,is this ok?

Please advise?

You can try after 1 or 2 days. But SSA recommends waiting for 7 days. Remember if you are traveling in a work status (H1 or L1), you must start working to maintain status immediately. SSN has nothing to do with your ability and requirement to work. A maximum 10 day gap is acceptable, but not longer.
