  • Work Permit for foreigner

I have a doubt! My boyfriend is Canadian, but he works and lives in the USA. He has been living there for the past 4 years.
We are talking about marriage, but he wants me to live with him in the USA.

He has a work permit..if we get married will I have the same right and get the same visa he has? I am Brazilian. I am currently living in Brazil while he is living in the USA.

    Thank you!

Being as it is he's a canadian citizen, he probably has a TN visa, which allows him to live and work in the USA. I have no experience with the immigration process in Canada - but were you to marry your boyfriend, you will most probably be eligible to apply and become a permanent resident *of Canada* - not the US.

But, being his spouse, you can also apply for a TN visa - but you will NOT be allowed to work - only live and study in the US. Also, you would need to apply once married, and once in Canada.

And honestly speaking, I don't know what your chances are of getting it - you would be coming from Brazil to Canada, to marry a canadian citizen who lives and works in the US, and immediately apply for the TN visa to join him in the US. I don't feel confident this will work out . . .
