  • Does anyone know the processing times for an ITIN for 2015

Hi all I am Canadian, I married my USC hubby in August of 2014, we applied for my ITIN when we filed his 2014 taxes , they received in on Feb 3, 2015, when I did out the papers I did it and printed them from Turbo tax to mail in, as of today we haven't heard anything back, but get this, turbo taxed efiled our state return and low and behold he got his state refund, we called the state the following day after filing and told them and they said it wouldn't process without my ITIN, So not sure what is going on there, my question is has anyone filed for an ITIN this year and if so have they heard anything back. I called the ITIN line last week because I sent my original Passport, and she was very rude, told me to call back in 8 weeks. Any input will help.

I don't know about this year, but last year they told me it takes atleast 8 weeks but we got the original passport back in about 3-4 weeks. The actually ITIN took close to 6-7 weeks.

              i applied on FEb 11

Even I applied on Feb 11 through H&R block and didn't send any orginal passport as H&R block got certified professional to validate the documents.
No idea how long it is going to take as it is more than 5 weeks now.

keep posted if you guys get any update.

              good luck

                ITIN Update

                Hi Guys,
I had applied on 11-Feb-15 by going to IRS office in Newark, NJ. Today my Federal Return Status started showing up as "Processing" in "Where is my Refund"

I believe it means ITIN got processed and it's on my way. It took exactly 5 weeks (Today being 18-Mar-15) for refund status to show up as "Processing". Will update once I receive ITIN in mail.
                Thanks.

                      ITIN Final update

                      Hi guys,
I got my wife's ITIN yesterday (19-Mar-2015) in mail and will be applying state returns with it now. So took exactly 36 Calendar days for me to get ITIN of my wife. In our case we applied directly at IRS office in Newark, NJ by showing original passport. We did NOT send original passport to IRIS Texas office.
Happy Refund to all of you, cheers!

                          -------------

I just saw the Refund status page showing "return received " and it means our ITIN application is processed and on the way ( no issues with my wife name ( FNU Lastname).

Also I got update from H&R block after so many follow ups that IRS receicved my application on Feb 23.

Here is the re cap and will keep updates the rest of status.

Feb 11 - applied at H&R block office with copy of Passport ( certified agent did verification ) .. they say it free of cost but you have to pay for other forms and return processing.

Feb 23 - IRS received the packet at Texas processing center ( I don't know why its is delayed. Local H&R send to there'r main branch , they send to IRS @ texas)

Until Mar 24 - IRS refund page shows - verify your information or not found..

Mar 24 - Return received and there 2 more stages , APPROVED and complete..

Next - Receive ITIN - Through mail

                          Next - Refund - ?
