  • Social security benefits / Permanent resident

A person worked in the USA, as a permanent resident (green card) for more than 10 years.
That person, for family reasons, went back to her country of origin and now resides abroad. She obviously does not have a green card any more.
Will she be able to collect Social Security benefits for all those years that she worked in the USA upon reaching the required age ?

Is this applicable to all countries, or only to select countries?

As long as you have acculated enough points in the SSA point system, you are eligible to get benefits if you leave the US with/without the GC. It does not matter which country you go to AFAIK. May be SSA will not mail out checks to any countries that are categorized as state sponsors of terrorism by the Dept of State. I am not sure about that, but that doesn't sound right though as the person still earned the benefit.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
