  • Question on Rebate Check

I have a question on recently announced tax rabate check. I filed my tax return for 2007-2008 with 'Married-Filing Jointly' status as i have a valid SSN and my wife have only ITIN. Some saying, i am not eligible for getting the rebate check since both should have a valid SSN on this case. Is this true? Can anyone answer?

    Thanks for your help!

    Not at all

As long as you filed married-joint you're good. ITIN is the same as SSN for IRS.

I am wondering though why would you want to go for "some say" rather than just call up the IRS or your CPA.

    Well, wonders never cease!

"some say" is actually what the rebate bill sayas and so does the IRS.

"knowledgeable" you need to change your name.

It is true that if on joint returns one of the spouse has ITIN neither gets the rebate check. same for kids on ITIN, they lose out their portion.

for more details visit www.irs.gov and looks for rebate FAQs.
