ssn without w2

Hi,

i came to us on h4 visa and got h1b this year.i have applied for SSN but no plan to work this year.so i will not have W2 this year.

My question are

1)do i need to file returns ?
2)is there any issue in future if m not getting W2 this year.

What status does your I-94 list? I am surprised that you received SSN while still on H4 with an approved (but not active) H1B. Are you sure your H1B was not a COS and you were to report for work on Oct 1?

my status changed from h4 to h1 and got new i94 but i have not started my work yet.

It is illegal to remain without work and pay stubs on H1b. You are out of status and will face problems.
