Should I file Single or Married jointly

Hi,

I got married in Nov 08 but I came to US along with my wife in January 14 2009.
Now should I file as single or jointly for the year 2008 as per IRS they ask if you were married on 31st of December 2008.

If you were married in 2008, why is that still a question? You are married for tax purposes irrespective of when you/your wife entered US.
