Regarding application status

I applied for a SSN on July 24th, my OPT-F1 period began on July 22nd. I never had any jobs during my masters,so never applied for one. The problem now is that I still haven't received my SSN. I tried calling up the local SSN office and they are saying that the application is at the immigration department. I tried contacting USCIS and they are of no help either.How am I supposed to check the status now? It's already more than 2 months.

Another problem is that I just got placed as an intern. How am I supposed run my payroll without the SSN?

Need urgent help regarding this.

I am experiencing the same problem and the worst part is i just signed on with an employer today and i m afraid if the ssn doesnt arrive in time i ll lose the job

I have already been to the ssa office again .. and they said they havnt got the verification from the USCIS .. (they had to send a manual verification , coz they said that they cudnt find My EAD In the system )
USCIS doesn't address these issues on phone and they asked me to schedule an appt at the local field office..
