Hi all,
I'd like to share my bizarre interviewing experience at the Beijing embassy on 1/30. I went for L1B/L2 interview with my wife and 1Y3M son, and we knew that our son is exempt from interview but because no one will take care of him at home so we brought him with us. We dressed semi-formal, and arrived early.
My employer in the US hired an attorney to oversee my case so she has prepared all the documents for me and taught me how to answer the questions, and I also studied this website well. Here is how the interview went:
Me: Good morning! How're you?
VO: Good morning! I'm fine, thank you. How're you?
Me: Great, thanks. Here are our passports and the information (handing her all the documents)
VO: Great, thanks. (looking at the document for a while)
VO: Wow, so you have been with YYYY for a quite awhile.
Me: Yes, I've been with YYYY in Beijing for XX months, and previously I was also with the Shanghai office for XX months.
VO: What are you going to do in the US?
Me: I'm going to be a ZZZ, and I specialize in ZZZ. I will help the YYYY team build their ZZZ
VO: (reading documents for a while once again) You look very qualified.
VO: (reading my resume and past experiences) Wow so you also have done ZZZ
VO turned to my wife: So where did you two meet with each other?
My wife: Oh, in Guangdong province.
VO: Your application looks very qualified, and you look like such a pro. Is this your first time?
Me: For L1?
VO: Yes.
Me: Yes, it's my first time.
VO: OK, your visa is approved, but it will require further processing which will take 2 weeks. US embassy is not closed during Chinese Spring Festival (which I later found out is not entirely true). (She wrote on all three copies of my I-129S as approved, took one copy & passports, return rest of documentations to me, and gave me 3 pink/red slips for passport pick-up)
VO: Btw, your son is so adorable.
Me: Thank you so much.
Now, when I check my applications online, it said it's under administrative processing, and most of my colleagues got the visa within 3 business days or so. My colleague also told me that VO's words are not to be trusted as they don't know what's going on in the back, and the usual case is resolved within 3 weeks.
Now, from place to placs I read that it can go as much as 60 days or more...
I'm wondering if VO's words can actually be trusted? Does anyone have similar experience? How reliable the VO's estimation is?
Thank you.
