L1B to L1A conversion petition approved for just 2 months!!!

I had a short lived happiness of my L1A petition approval. Today I received my approved petition and was shocked to see the approval for just 2 months.
Did it ever happen to anyone in the past?
Background - I was about to complete 5 years on L1B Visa this december'2013. My company has filed my visa conversion from L1B to L1A this may (6 months prior to the completion of 5 years). My petition went in to RFE and finally got approved in the last week of September. I felt happy and assumed that my new petition will have validity for next 2 years, till my 7 year completion date. But surprisingly, my happiness short lived, my petition approval end date is my 5 year completion date ie this December 2013.
Effectively I got the approval for only 2 months. I am really not sure about the reason/logic behind this.

Can anyone suggest me the options available in front of me to stay beyond by 5 years?
Please help!

Did you ask your employer/attorney as to why only for 2 Months? Did they show project/contract only till Year end? Whats the I-94 date on the I797?

If it was a mistake from USCIS they can file for correction. They can probably file another extension but most likely it will also go to RFE and the entire wait process again unless done in premium.

I have reached out to my company, who in turn checking with attorney on this issue. They have not come back to me yet.
Hence I got anxious and wanted to know the options ahead of me. So filing an extension is still a possibility right? I dont want any 6 months limit or 3 month limit criteria come in to picture for the filing

And also, I have not received my hardcopy yet. My company has mailed me this friday.
I am not sure the I-94 date. But I heard the date will be revised to the petition end date.

Do you have an update in this regards? My L1B to L1A conversion was filed recently and got the approval email yesterday. On noticing that L1A validit date is till my L1B maxout date (i.e. 3 mnths from now)?
Did you hear back from your company yet or did you find what could have went wrong?
Also will you now be able to file for L1A extension?

Any information that you could provide in this regards is much appreciated.
