  • L1 change employer AND apply for green card

I am an L1-A holder and am about to change employers. I was supposed to start the COS process for a green card with my current employer.
What would my new employer need to do to hire me? Can they "take over" the L1-A?
If not and they would need to sponsor an H1-B, how does that affect the COS process (which I've been told would be very easy from an L1-A status)?

    Appreciate your insights!

L1 visas are not transferable like H1s.

Are you in US on L1A visa? Do you have a prior H1 to which you are doing a COS to ?

This is my opinion not legal advice.

If you already have an approved H1B petition, you can go for COS from L1A to H1B.

Once you get your GC, then too you are free to switch jobs.

Otherwise, you cannot change your job.
