L1 to b2

Hi, I'm working in U.S. with L1 visa. I want to stay in US after I finish working - i.e switch to b2.
I have a valid b2 visa for couple of years. How do I change my status?
Do I need to need to fill in I-539 and pay a fee of 165$ and wait 2 months? I don't have so much time.

That is the only option while staying in US, or you can leave US and immediately re enter on your B2 visa. By the way what is the purpose of staying on B2?

I just want to stay to travel with b2.
Is there a problem to go out to Canada and re-enter? You said that it's possible, but is it really accepted or it doesn't look good and I'll have problems in the future?
