  • Applying for Greencard with L1A...

    Hi everyone,
I got little confused on how to trigger to Greencard application.
I am in US with L1A for the last 3 years.
I want to understand whether i can start the greencard application via hiring an attorney by myself or am I bind to the company that i am working for?

Thanks in advance for your answers and support.

    Regards...

When you say green card I assume it's employment based. So your employer has to file for it. There are self sponsor GC too but those typically require high qualifications/credentials such as extensive research, international recognition, Nobel prize winners etc.

This is my opinion not legal advice.

      Thank you so much raghvi.
You are right, i was asking for employment based green card.
This triggers another question in my mind, in case my employer files for the employment based green card, after receiving the green card, am I free to work at any employer within US or still only for the current company that i am working for?

Yes you can shift employer once on GC. But getting a GC would depend upon the category under which its being applied for and your country of birth. Example, EB1 for India it can take 6-12 Months. Eb2 for India can take 6-8 Years, EB3 10-12 years.
