  • What happens to my L1 status if my company closes?

    Hi

I currently hold a valid L1-B visa until August 2016.

There is some speculation at the moment that the company may be forced to liquidate. If this happens then it looks like my L1 visa becomes invalid.

Does anybody know what would happen next?

I assume that there are probably two options -

    1) I have to leave the USA within a certain period of time

    2) I get another job with a company (who is willing to sponsor me) and work through the process of updating/transferring my visa.

I am sure this must happen a lot.

Any thoughts or advice would be great as I am pretty worried about having to pack up and leave quickly.

    Thanks

L1 is not a transferable visa so you would either have to move to another status or leave US.

This is my opinion not legal advice.
