  • Changing from L1 - will no longer have job. Urgent advice requested

    Hi,

I'm looking for some urgent advice please. I am currently in the US on an L visa and been informed my role will be terminated in 1 month's time. At that point, I understand I will be required to leave the country.

I am intending to get married to a US citizen by next March, and would like to understand my options in remaining in the country during that period. There will be a gap of 6 months.

Additional info - I do have a potential offer from a US based company though cannot transfer my L visa. Looking for options on B1, B2, or B1 in lieu of H1-B.

    Thanks!

B1/B2 or any other status change used as a stop gap arrangement is not recommended. This is my opinion not legal advice.

The correct way would be to get married and file for an Adjustment of Status within US OR as consular process then leave US and re enter after getting it approved.

Each visa or status has a specific purpose and its given based upon the documentation proving the same if your intent is to merely use the intermediate status as stop gap it will be pretty obvious in terms of documentation that you would provide.

This is my opinion not legal advice.
