L1B visa filing in Mexico:Indian Passport expiring in 6 months

Hello Everyone,

Can you help with the following queries:

I am currently in Mexico on work permit. My work permit ends on Feb 15, 2017.
My Indian Passport will expire on 25 July 2017. Now my company wants to file for L1B visa for me.
In all probability visa may be filed before 15-20 January 2017.

Questions:

1.Is it mandatory to have passport validity for 6 months before filing for L1B visa or is it required only when you enter US.

2.Should I file for renewal of passport at the earliest and then file the L1B visa. Does the passport validity affect the VISA duration granted.

3.Should I go ahead with the L1B visa interview and once the visa is approved then go passport renewal.

4. Is physical presence required for the renewal of Indian Passport in Mexico City. I checked the embassy website but there is nothing mentioned about this.

Any suggestions on this will be greatly appreciated.

Any updates on this? Did you get the L1 for 3 years? I'm in the same situation and would like to understand this as well.
