Applied for L1A was issued L1B - reason given - wrong category

Hello,

I haven't read a similar case and so am posting this in case if its useful for someone. I appeared for L1A Blanket interview at Chennai in Sept 2017 along with my wife and kid. The officer was quite nice, however she was a bit apprehensive when I said that I would not have any reportees in the US. She asked me a few more questions about my job, and then after some time of typing quite a bit on her system, said that she thought I do not fit in the L1A category and that instead she would approve me for a L1B. She stamped the I129 and circled L1B. I got the passports with the visas couple of days later.

The L1A is issued for someone who will have employees reporting to them in a manager type situation or in an executive type position. The L1B is for someone who will not be over a group of people but has specialized knowledge.
