  • L1,L2 Extension with EAD Renewal (filed together under normal processing)

    Hello everybody,

Requesting people who have been in similar boat to please help by answering my question below:

We will be filing for "L1A, L2 extension with L2-EAD renewal" via my husband's company lawyer. How much time, the L2-EAD approval would take under such a scenario (please note the "key" scenario again: all 3 will be filed together under normal processing)?

Looking forward to some responses, thanks!

Thank you very much for your response.

But just to clarify again, did you file for ead along with L1, L2 extensions? because as per my lawyer, ead is quick if filed with extensions!

      Regards,
      DG

EAD is depending on your L1/L2 extension. If your extension itself will be taking time, how come they can approve your EAD?

Yes, I agree with you completely. First L1A extension is approved, then it's L2 extension and end is EAD. However, what I am trying to differentiate between is: EAD filed together with extensions vs EAD filed after filing extensions (say 2 weeks after filing extensions). The lawyer is saying that if you file EAD together vs separate, the 1st case (together) has EAD approval much quicker than the second case. That I am asking if you have experience as per 1st case.

Sorry if I am confusing you but it's important to know as my EAD and L1/L2 are valid till 1/1/2019 and we may be filing under normal processing.

          Thank you very much

If you file all together, you'll get the response almost together.

So yes, that way it will speed up the process.

            Hope this helps.

As promised, I am back with the outcome of my case:

The visa extension & EAD were filed together but it was filed really late by the lawyer (received date by Texas Center was 1st Nov'18 and Visa/Work Permit Expiry Date was 1 Jan'19).

Fortunately, the employer agreed for premium processing and today i.e. on 11/12, status for EAD is "new card being produced".

Result: File for visa extensions and EAD together if you want EAD fast. The lawyer would charge fee for filing EAD but it's worth it as that ways, you get everything approved together and so, the process is faster. There is no premium processing for EADs but because L1A extension went under premium and L2 extension & EAD were filed with it, all got approved together.

                    Thanks

normal 4-6 months - might take more time if you get rfe
premium - 15 days - again rfe stops the clock
