  • L2 EAD - Can i travel?

    Hi,

Can I travel outside of US after applying EAD?

I am planning to come over a weekend to US in L2 visa and apply for EAD and travel back to canada. Is this possible?

    Thanks,
    Hg

Pending EAD does not impose any travel restrictions. But when you travel outside, your current status that verifies your eligibility for EAD from your I-94 cannot be verified and USCIS may issue an RFE.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

What does that Mean? RFE?? Is it advisable to travel outside US when EAD is pending?

I understand that USCIS may ask for a request for evidence, but how long should i stay in US to validate that?

I would say to wait in US till the EAD is approved. The I-94 record determines your status and once it gets closed when you travel outside US, you are no longer considered to be on L2. Trips to Canada within 30 days do not get a new I-94. It depends on your trip duration.

on the I-94 issue, what is entered by the officer at POE in the "record of changes" field in the back side of I-94? I travelled during H1 Xfer so the office wrote my old employer in the "record of changes" field. Is this normal?
