L1B extension

Hello,

A friend of mine has her L1B visa valid till April 2009.
She has to travel back home since her project is getting over. Can she apply for L1B visa extension from her home country ?

Employer can if they want to resend the person to US.

Extension is used when a person is in US. How does it make a difference?
