L1 extension and passport validity

hi,

could some one suggest me how can I proceed with the below

I have L1 visa till 21May2010, and my passport is going to expire on
05Sept2010. If I want to apply for L1 visa extension, can I apply with the existing passport or should I apply for new passport and then apply for L1 extension.

Some of my friends said L1 extension does not matter with passport expiry date as long as I'm in USA. Could some one suggest how can I proceed???

If I want to apply for indian passport renewal in US how long will it take?

Extension of stay has nothing to do with your passport validity. Passport validity is important only if you have to go out of the country for stamping.

Passport renewal in U.S will take somewhere around 3 weeks.

so I can apply for L1 extension regardless of passport expiry, but once the extension is applied what kind of proof I will get to stay in US as I will not be going for Visa stamping.

Also when applying will the attorney see the passport expiry date?
how long will it take for L1 extension.
