L1b visa validity confusion

Hi ,

I got my L1b stamped last month with visa validity only till Feb 2013 as that was the time when petition was filed.

So when i am traveling first time to US , validity of various documents would be

L1b Visa on passport - till Feb 2013
I-94 - till Sep 2013 ( i am traveling next month)
petition - indefinite ( as mentioned in petition document)

Could you please help me understand how long i can stay in US ?

As i have read in the forum , the I-94 extension can be applied only 6 months in advance , but by that time my visa had already expired ? So what are my options for applying the extension ?

I-94 date is given usually until petition expiry date.
So you can stay up to that date, and apply for extension about 6 months before.
Don't worry about visa, it's only required to enter USA.

But i have heard that the extension can be applied only after coming to INDIA.
So , when i come back my visa will no longer be valid.

I can't apply for the extension before my visa expiry date as it can be applied only 6 months prior to I-94 expiry date.


Is there any way to update the visa date on passport other than extension or new visa ?

Is it true that we can apply for extention only after coming back to India? Could you please confirm?
