can i move from L1 to h1B

Hi,

I'm working for Infosys in US and i have landed in US one year back and i am on L1.

My question is:

can i resign my job on L1 in infosys US ? i 'm planning to work for h1b employer ? please help me.

After an H1 employer files a petition for you, you must maintain L1 status until Oct 1 by working for the L1 employer.
If the H1 is approved with change of status, then you must leave the L1 job and join the H1 employer on Oct 1

Moving to H1 from L1

Why do we need to move the status in Oct? Also can this be preponed/postponed?

New fiscal year starts on Oct 1 when a new quota of 65000 H1 visas is available. Quota for the current year is already used up, so you have to wait until next year.

Your H1 employer can request a start date later than Oct 1, but petition cannot be filed more than 6 months before the requested start date. H1 petition can alse be filed without change of status, which means whenever you are ready to change status to H1 (after Oct 1), the employer can file amendment and you can join them.
