L2 visa validity & issues

Hi

I have been in USA for the last 1 year on L1A with wife and son who are on L2 dependent visas. My wife got L2 EAD 5 months ago and started working here. I have to return to India soon as my assignment is completing. But my wife is refusing to return and says she will continue in USA along with my son. Can she continue here on L2 visa if I return to India and she continues here? How long her visa will be valid? Will it pose any problems to us (Myself/Wife/Son) legally? Pls. let me know. Thanks

Dependents can only stay in the US without the principal for a short period of time and only if the principal is intending to return after short trips abroad.
