  • H1B to L2 visa stamping in UK

    Hi,

I am currently in US with L2 visa. I was in H1B and so had to get my L2 visa stamped in order to leave and get back. I am planning for a visit to UK and thinking of any option to get my L2 visa stamped in London US consulate. Can anybody provide some information if London US consulate permit to change my US visa status H1B to L2 stamped?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rajesh

What is your current status as per your latest I-94 (one issued at POE or one that came with approval notice)?
Consulate/embassy in UK should be able to issue you the L2 Visa. You can apply there. Home country is always the best option any way.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

Thanks for the response. I am currently in L2 (I-94) and in US. My L2 (I-94) expires on Dec 15, 2011. I am planning to go to UK in the month of July and will be back in 2-3 weeks if US visa process in London goes fine.

FYI: I have 3 US stampings till now - 1st in India (home country); 2nd in Mexico and 3rd in India. I am not sure if this might impact the decision on the stamping.

      Thanks,
      Rajesh

Yes, you should be able to apply for L2 from U.K.

Thank you very much for your reply. Thats very useful.
I have heard lot that its better to apply from home country to avoid the possibility of rejection. Is it true? Are there any success stories.

Also, I had L2 visa previously stamped from India but it was CWOP(Cancelled without prejudice) when I got my H1 done. Will this effect my this application? And I would be applying from UK..

              >>> It is the same. If you have proper documentation, then you can apply for L2 from U.K or INida. It doesn't matter.

                  Hi shervin143,
I got the list of documents for L2 from the site. (https://www.immihelp.com/usa-visas/l1/l2docs.html). Is there any thing extra need to be carried out if applying from UK? (Home country in India).

No. The list of documents will still be the same.

                        Hi Shervin,

I have quick question on DS-160. Could you please provide your advice?
In DS-160, there is questions that “Has your US visa ever been Cancelled or Revoked?”.

My spouse had L2 visa which was valid till May 2013. However, when I had gone for my H1 visa stamping in Dec 2010 his L2 visa was CWOP i.e Cancelled without prejudice.

In this case, will the answer to above question would Yes or No?

Answer YES (In your spouse's DS160) and mention the reason as ' Cancelled without prejudice' due to applying for a different visa category. This will have no impact on the new visa application.

                              L2 Visa for Husbands

                              Hi,

My wife's company has applied for my L2 visa and my interview date is on 2nd July 2012. My wife went to US on 10th June 2012 on L1 visa for her long term assignment.

I am in lot of confusion about my approval of L2 visa as I have not gone through a single thread here of L2 visa for husbands. (as all are of wife applying for L2 visa)

Also, want help on the type of questions asked to L2 applicants and specifically when Husband is applying for L2. My wife has left first on L1 and she is now in US so is there would be any concern about why I have not applied along with my wife?

Do I need to carry my educational certificates, experience letter, present employer's appointment letter etc.?

                              Please reply on urgent basis.

                              Thanks in advance.
