  • Need some Info on L1 Blanket

    Hi,

I have done my BE in Electronics and Communication and have 5+ years of IT experience and I travelled to US from my previous company on L1.
Now I joined a new comapny in bangalore and I see many L1 rejection cases here. My question is am I eligible for L1B blanket. I heard that BE in Computer science is needed to apply for L1B blanket, but I also have 5+years of experience in Software industry. Does that count or I need to go for L1B Individual?

    Thanks,
    P.

    Hi Prashanth,

    To my understanding,

L1 under blanket petition is applied not by you, but by your company. and a single continous stay limit is 5 years.

Also there are few other requirements like you should have completed atleast an year before the company applied for you etc. if the company uses its blanket quota , than you don't apply as individual.

Other than that, BE in a particular stream has nothing to do with application, but specialization has to do with L1-B for sure.

U need to prove that you have a specialization that others in us don't have, and it is not locally found in US.

    Hope that helps.

    Kind Regards,

    Chandan

Though what chandan_maddanna has said is true, in letter and spirit the BE in a particular stream has nothing to do with application. On a overall perspective even if the BE is not done in IT or Computer Science subject one can be specialized in it. There are various considerations beyond the Degree. Such as how long you have been with the organization, because if one says he is specialized in the Organization tools and processes, it can be quite unconvincing to the VO that one can get specialized in the Organizations practices and processes in just one year. If you can be why not others? Also, if the person has been with the particular client for a very short period of time then again it can get be unconvincing to the VO that one would be specialized in the client processes and tools. What would prevent the client from hiring some one locally and training them? All said and done, for L1-B one has to demonstrate specialized knowledge, either in the domain, or the technology or the area of work or in clients/company's processes and methodologies. I would say one has to ask honestly to oneself what is differentiating him/her from other team members especially with respect to team working in US. Lets say for example, are you the only one or among the very few in the project/company/industry who know about a certain tool, methodology, process etc that makes you unique? If yes, then VO can be convinced that you have specialized knowledge irrespective the number of years of experience, or the education. This is my personal opinion, please do consult with leading experts and authorities too.
