  • Transfer to other school

I'm currently at study in The University of findlay,Ohio. now I want to transfer in Northwestern Polytechnic University, califonia. Because Northwestern Polytechnic University offers me which meet my requirements which I want to study. My problem is that I have visa stamp for "The university of findlay" in my passport. so Is it necessary to re-stamp for Northwestern polytechnic university? Is it Needed to send my passport for re-stamp to consulate?

Also one more problem is that I have admission in northwestern polytechnic University and I will be study there and If I want to apply for F-2 application for my spouse. because i'm transfer student so any problem occur for my spouse in visa interviews or not? suppose I will be go to my home country In christmas holiday then I will come with my spouse then any problem occur in Immigration both us or not?

    Thanking you....

F-1 Reinstatement to a different school is possible under very specific circumstances, but is unsuitable for most aliens

    * USCIS takes between 60 and 120 days to adjudicate an application for reinstatement, which is a very wide range of time. There is no way to predict whether your application will take closer to 60, or closer to 120 days. You are allowed only 60 days grace period in which you are out of status.

    * You must remain in status during the whole period in which you await the result of your application for reinstatement, notwithstanding the 60 days grace period.

    * You can not begin studies at the new school until your application for reinstatement is approved. This makes planning to move, find an apartment, etc very difficult. You can not enroll in classes ahead of time. You probably will not be able to complete orientation, assessment, and academic counselling requirements at the other school ahead of time.

    * If they find out you have engaged in unauthorized employment, USCIS is required to deny your application for reinstatement. If instead you left the country and applied for a new F-1 visa, disclosing the details of violations, the consular officer has the discretion to grant you a new visa.

    * Applications for reinstatement are sometimes denied because USCIS screws up in adjudicating your application. An appeal is possible but not something you can do yourself (unless, say, you're going to law school)

    * Applications for reinstatement are sometimes denied because Designated School Officials screw up your I-20 or SEVIS data entry. Denial of reinstatement cancels your F-1, and you begin accruing unlawful presence. You have 180 days before the 3 year bar to admissibility kicks in.

    * Applications for reinstatement are sometimes denied because students screw up their applications for reinstatement. Unlawful presence kicks in!

    * You can no longer continue studying at the old school when your application for reinstatement is approved, notwithstanding the 60 days grace. Again, you can't predict the timeline for reinstatement adjudication, so it is difficult to plan.

I think reinstatement can work for aliens who can plan ahead and be very flexible. It might also be the best option for someone who can't go home because of dangerous conditions on the ground (eg Yemen). The typical alien would be better off taking a vacation back home with family and applying for a new visa at the consulate.

You should definitely talk to the International Students department at NPU before making a decision as to how to proceed. Having to restart the clock on OPT/CPT may have an impact on your academic plans.
