F1 visa damaged

Hello, my name is Brian and my I recently got my new passport from the Kenyan embassy here in the states because my previous passport was severely damaged along with my student visa. I contacted the US embassy in my home country and the said I have to fly out to apply for a new visa. Can I stay on the states without a visa? I did not want to go home because Im graduating next spring and there is not enough time before school starts. How do I leave the country without my visa? Who should I contact? I'm so confused please help?

If you are eligible to travel to either Canada or Mexico, or another nearby country, you could look into making an appointment at a US embassy in that country to have a visa foil affixed to your new passport. Many students of Indian origin seem to be crossing the border for a few days to do just that.
