  • F2 approved, F1 on administrative processing

    Hi,

I applied for an F1 VISA and F2 for my wife, and this is what happened.

Let me give a brief background first:

I have applied for a PhD at Wayne State University. Previously, back in 2010, I had an F-1 Visa. I did my masters degree from Louisiana. After Louisiana, I got into a PhD program at Colorado. But I had to leave after a semester, owing to personal urgency. When I left, I used proper process. In fact, I had received a mail saying that because I don't have a degree, I will have to leave within 15 days (which I did). That VISA expired in August 2015.

My wife had an H1-B visa, she went to the US, and then came back when our marriage got fixed. Her VISA expired in August 2016.

Now this time, at the time of interview, The VO didn't ask anything about my Colorado period. In the end, she said that my VISA is approved, but my i-20 from Colorado is still showing active in the system. She would have to remove it from the system, which would take 10 days. She also said that my wife's passport would be available within 2 days.

This was yesterday, at 11:20 am. At around 3:00 pm, my wife got an sms that her passport is ready for collection. My status says "administrative processing".

My question : Is this normal? And is this a reason for me to panic? What I find funny is how F2 gets ready for pickup when F1 is still in processing.. I am kinda freaking out here guys. Please advise.

    Thanks,

    AB

I'd really appreciate some advice on this guys. Meanwhile, my wife has collected her passport. It has an F2 VISA for 5 years, and my name as principal applicant.
