  • F2 Visa for wife PhD student in India

    Hi Friends,

I'll be grateful if somebody could help me with this. I am a PhD student in an US University and getting $ 1900 assistantship per month. My wife is a PhD student in India in plant microbiology. She has been PhD student for 3 years, but not completed it. She wants to join me here. Should we show her as a PhD student on form DS-157, where they ask for list all education institutes you attend or attended it. Could it make her highly qualified and her visa be rejected. She will be appearing at Delhi embassy.

Or should we hide it? She completed her masters in 2003 and we got married in 2006. If we do so, what should she reply if asked what have you been doing after your masters? Thanks for your time.

Dont hide anything and be honest. Best is for you to get a stable job on a work-visa and then call her. There is a good chance of the officer questioning about your pay and also ask "with 1900 how is your husband going to support you?" . So thats an issue there. But never hide anything.
And you are on F1..is that correct? Speak to your International Student Services department at the university. They should have a immigration-counselor whom you can speak to. They will be able to guide you, as am sure they have dealt with such cases.

Note that this is not a legal advice. Consult your immigration attorney for the best upto-date information.
