Im an international graduate student, doing a ph.d. in Boston. I want to travel abroad but I need to renew my F1 visa. I have a valid I20 and Im a currently registered student. My concern is that since the time I have been in the US my personal situation has changed. I now have a son, who was born in the US. He lives with his mother in a different state, since she and I are not together anymore (we never got married either). She is now married to someone else and is a US resident.

Im concerned that the fact that I have a son who is a us citizen might be seen as an immigration intent. Should I be concerned? is there any additional documentation I should bring with me to the consulate?

Also, someone told me that they (the consulate) had no way of knowing if I had a son (is this true???), so I shouldnt mention it. But in the DS156 form they ask about my family and siblings.. so Im a bit reluctant on withholding information.

Has anyone had any experience or advice on these issues?

    thanks,

    a.

dont withhold information that can have serious consquences if asked you can explain the circumstances and it should work for you. Your son cannot sponsor you for any kind of visa and you are not the custodial parent
