  • F2 Visa: Can I work?

    Hi,
my husband has got admission for MS at Rochester, Newyork, US. He has got his F1 visa.
    - If I want to go with him as his dependent then I will have to file F2. Is it correct?
    - what is processing time for F2?
    - Can I work on F2?

your replies will be of great help.

No special processing time for F2. Your spouse's school ISO should be informed of the F2 visa need, for them to send the paperwork for your visa. Also additional funds have to be shown to support the stay.

No work allowed for F2 visa holder.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

Your only hope is to join college yourself and convert your status to F-1 and see what you can earn part time as per the F-1 rules. Or see if you can get a job offer which will give you H-1B status (easier said than done, but you might manage it if you do a master's or higher degree from an US college)
