  • Emergency appointment for renewal

    Dear Sir/Ma'm,

    I've a quick question about emergency appointments at the US consulate in Chennai, India. I'd like to know how much I should pay you in order to receive an answer.

    The question is as below:

    My question
    =========
    I am a PhD student currently in U.S. My F-1 visa got expired in June 2007. I have a valid I-20. I'd like to go to India to get a new student visa.

    The VFS website says the following as one of the eligibility criteria for emergency appointments:

    'Students or exchange visitors who are within 120 days of their start date of a valid programme and who have not been refused a visa within the last six months'

    Since I am already a student here, my I-20 shows a date in 2004 as the starting date for the program. In such a case, would you kindly tell me if I am eligible to apply for an emergency appointment ?

    ======End of Question =========

    Would you please tell me how much should I pay so you can answer this question for me ?

    Thanks in advance

      Hi,

      Thanks, but, that definitely does not answer my question. It says that for an F-1 student to get an emergency appointment, the I-20 has to show a starting date of program within 90 days. But, since I am already a student in the US and I am going to get a new visa, my I-20 shows a date of the past when I was first admitted.

      That's the confusion

        There is a criteria for 'Returning H/L Worker' but there is no criteria for 'Returning Student'. Therefore, it does not look like you would be eligible for.
