  • F2 dependent visa on OPT

    Hi,
I will start my OPT from June 1, 2009 and plan to go to India in June to get married. I have employment offer as post doctoral fellow from the university where I am pursuing my PhD. I was wondering if there are any issues getting F2 dependent visa for my wife when I am on OPT. Also, what kind of documents consular may ask to produce? I would really appreciate your answer.
    Thanks

There are no issues. First you will need a dependent I-20 from your school. Talk to your DSO for that. All they need is name of your spouse and their DOB. You would be in much less trouble if your wife does not change her legal name (on passport and elsewhere)

Your wife will need to apply for F2 visa at the nearest consulate using that dependent I-20 after your wedding. Marriage certificate will be required and job letter, OPT card etc. will also be needed.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
