Ok so my wife is currently studying in the US on a J1.
She has a 2 year scholarship, and her first year ends 22nd Jun 2010. assuming she passes (which she will), she'll get her J1 for the second year, taking her through to 22nd Jun 2011.
I've just been granted my J2 to go over and live with her, I arrive Feb 20th. As soon as I arrive I'll apply for an EAD so that I can work. As I understand it, this takes about 3 months (why does the US gov want people sitting idle for 3 months??)...
So, assuming that I receive my work permit May 20th, I'll only have 1 month before it expires! so my questions are:
(1) who in their right mind would hire me, knowing that i have just 1 month of work permit.
(2) Should I maybe submit my application for EAD extension at the same time I apply for my initial EAD?
And to throw another spanner into the works, my wife is submitting her application for J1 extension in the next couple of weeks. Is there something I should be doing now too for my J1 extension?
