  • CR1 civil documents and multiple marriage certificates

    Hi there,

My wife and I are at the stage of uploading civil documents. I am the petitioner and she is the applicant. I notice in the civil document instructions that it says the application must have this: "If you are or have been married, you must obtain original marriage certificate/s or certified copies of EVERY marriage."

So, she has the original certificate from our marriage and also the one from her previous marriage (we also have the divorce document). I'm confused how I can upload "EVERY" marriage certificate. The MVC website only allows you to upload one. I'm assuming they don't want me to piece together both into one PDF. How do I upload the previous marriage certificate or do I need to? She will bring them to the interview but I'm confused on the upload.

    Thanks for any advice.

When applying for a CR1 visa, you will need to prepare all required civil documents, and one of the most important among these is your marriage certificate. If you have multiple marriage certificates due to errors, corrections, or re-issuances, you must submit the latest and officially registered version issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). In some cases, the U.S. Embassy may also request earlier versions for verification, so it is best to bring all copies available to avoid delays. To secure the correct documents efficiently, you can schedule an online appointment psa to request your authenticated marriage certificate and other civil records such as birth certificates or CENOMAR.

When applying for a CR-1 visa, your marriage certificate is one of the key civil documents required. If you have more than one certificate because of corrections or reissuance, the most recent PSA-issued version is what the U.S. Embassy will rely on. They may still look at older versions for verification, so it’s smart to bring every copy you have to avoid delays. If you need to secure an authenticated marriage certificate or other PSA records like birth certificates or a CENOMAR, you can conveniently book your online PSA appointment
