  • ESTA - while applying, and when arriving at airport - guidelines

If someone is entering the US on a Visa Waiver Program with ESTA clearance, do they
    1) Need an invitation letter from a friend to show at the airport?
    2) It is not required to give address in US when filling up ESTA application. Is it OK to leave it as such? ir is there an unwritten law that applications must have a US address?
    3) If one does fill up a US address in ESTA application and tells officer at airport that this is where they are going, will the officer ask for a phone number to call the person, or will he ask for a letter of invitation from the friend? and what if someone living in US offers their place to stay for a few weeks to ESTA traveler, while they are themselves traveling and out of the country, and can't answer the phone
    4) What proof of funds does one have to show at the airport

Basically, I am familiar with B1-B2 requirements wheree letter of invitation and proof of funds are very formalized requirements. I am just not sure about ESTA. Please give complete information especially about how required or advisable it is to specify in detail where traveler is going (address) and phone numbers there.
