  • Help needed for Visitor Visa process for my MIL

    Hi,

My mother-in-law is a widow and my husband is the only son to her. But she has some properties back in India and she is a pentioner too. Her visa got rejected when we applied in the month of July 2012. They did not see any document from her and asked few questions like,
When did your husband passed away?
How many kids do you have? She said 1, as my husband is the only son
When did your son went to US?
Why you wanted to go? She said "as this is the holiday time for my grandson, they asked me to come to visit various places in USA"
How long will you be there? she said 6 months
Why do you need 6 months, you can go and come in 3 months? She said "ok, that is also fine for me"
But the consulor said that we are not issuing you any visa, please go. You did not show us proper reason that you will be back.

They did not even looked at any of her property documents.

Now after giving some time, we wanted to reapply her visa. So pelase guide me in proper direction, where i need to take care of things and shall I go for a self sponsored visa or we should sponsor her trip? Which way is the safest?
Also please let me know any other factors I need to take care of.

    Thanks much for your help.

    Thanks,
    Anasuya

      more questions, please advice

      Dear Administrator,

Thanks for the link that you have shared. It has good info to look into.
I have few more questions, please advice.

      1. My mother-in-law did not get any rejection stamp on her passport. Consulor did not even touch her passport. So when we are reapplying, what should I give the reason of rejection?
      2. Apart from DS-160, sample letter, etc....any other additional documentation needs to be done, incase of reapplying?
      3. I am on L1 here and my husband on L2. He is also working and earning more than I do. Can he sponsor his mother's visa rather than I am doing it?
      4. Also, can we do like that, as I did sponsor her visa for the first time. Now can my husband do that?
      5. Do you think self-sponsored one would be a better thing to proceed now?

      Please advice.

      Thanks!

          Self Sponsored visa

Please guide me the process for Self sponsored visa for my Mother-in-law.
          1. how much money she should have in her bank account?
          2. should we consider the FDs also to calculate the money she has? If not, how much liquid cash she should have and how much she should have as FDs?

          Please suggest.

          Thanks,
          Anasuya
